Description:

In 1935, Taisuke and Katsuko Sekiya opened their restaurant, "School Delicatessen," on School Street. They sold Japanese delicatessen foods, shaved ice, and ice cream. During World War II, they offered plate lunches for 10 cents each or a larger meal for 50 cents. By 1944, they added saimin and BBQ sticks to their menu. In 1947, the restaurant moved to Kapahulu Avenue, where they served dishes like Pork Tofu, Sukiyaki, and Fried Ahi. In 1955, they relocated to 2746 Kaimuki Avenue, where they still operate today. Sekiya's remains a beloved local restaurant, owned and run by the same family, and is one of the few remaining old-time eateries in the area.
